Reception Held on 30th Anniversary of Shanghai Communique

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan attended in Beijing Thursday a reception held by US Ambassador to China Clark Randt, to mark the 30th anniversary of Sino-US Shanghai Communique.

Randt first read a congratulatory letter from US President George W. Bush to Chinese President Jiang Zemin.

Tang Jiaxuan also read Jiang's congratulatory message to his US counterpart.

Tang said the foundation of Sino-US relationship was firm as pointed out in Jiang's letter, and the three Sino-US joint communiques guiding Sino-US ties can stand the test of time.

He said marking the 30th anniversary of Shanghai Communique is to remember all the principles in the communiques, which should be earnestly observed when handling Sino-US relationship.

He also expressed that the Sino-US ties is surely to make further development in the next 30 years, as long as the two sides adhere to the principles of the three joint communiques, bearing in mind the long-term development of the two countries and the general situation of the world.
