India Test-Fires Surface-to-Air Missile

India's most sophisticated surface-to-air missile Akash was successfully test-fired from the Interim Test Range at Chandipur in the eastern coastal state of Orissa on Tuesday, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.

The indigenously-developed missile, which has a range of 25 km, was test-fired from a mobile launcher at 5:25 p.m. in a clear sky, the PTI quoted test range sources as saying.

Akash has the capability to strike several targets simultaneously, the PTI noted.
