The National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, has formed a 10-member delegation to the third annual conference of the Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace (AAPP) from April 16 to 19 in capital Beijing and the southwest municipal city Chongqing.
Zhou Guangzhao, vice-chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, will head the delegation. In accordance with AAPP charter, Li Peng, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, will chair and preside over the meeting.
The NPC delegation includes heads of NPC's special committees and lawmakers from Chongqing and the adjacent Hubei Province. Lu Congmin, deputy secretary-general of the NPC Standing Committee, will serve as the secretary-general of NPC delegation.
The opening ceremony of the AAPP annual conference will be carried on in Beijing with other proceedings conducted at Chongqing.
Created in September of 1999, the AAPP is the largest inter-parliamentarian organization in Asia with 36 member states and 15 non-member states.
In line with the theme of "peace and development", lawmakers will discuss a wide spectrum of issues including multi-polarization in the world politics, world peace, economic globalization and its ensuing impact upon developing nations and how to strengthen international cooperation for a new international political and economic order.
