Uruguay Cuts Relations With Cuba

Uruguayan President Jorge Batlle announced Tuesday his government had decided to break off diplomatic relations with Cuba.

The decision came after the severe criticism issued by Cuban President Fidel Castro, who on Monday described Batlle as a "Judas" after Uruguay sponsored a United Nations resolution against Cuba's human rights record ahead of last Friday's vote at the annual session of the UN Commission on Human Rights in Geneva.
