Developing Nations Urged to Resist Globalization

Nigerian Justice Minister Kanu Agabihas in Lagos called on the developing countries to resist globalization because it endangers their policy on sovereignty in relation to international market forces, the News Agency of Nigeria reported on Monday.

The developing countries are not in a position to benefit effectively from globalization because they have to compete with countries that are beneficiaries from the current global system, Agabi was quoted as saying.

"Globalization destroys incentive in developing countries because while developing countries have to open their borders for imports, they don't have the means to produce to prescribed standard and export to the developing nations," the minister said.

The Third World should strive to free itself from external forces working against its interest and try to be self-reliant, headded.

The African continent, with more than 30 countries listed as the world's least developed nations by the World Bank, is facing more and more challenges of marginalization in the present trend of globalization of world economy.

"No part of the world has suffered like Africa, which has had to battle with slavery, colonialism, neocolonialism and now globalization," he added.
