Chinese Vice-Premier Meets Indonesian President in Rome

Chinese Vice-Premier Wen Jiabao met with Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri Tuesday on the side line of the World Food Summit which opened in Rome Monday.

Wen, who is leading a Chinese delegation to the summit, said Indonesia has enjoyed political stability and economic recovery since Megawati assumed presidency. He stressed that China resolutely supports Indonesia's efforts to safeguard national unity and develop national economy.

He also spoke highly of China-Indonesia relations, saying that the two countries are good partners that can trust each other.

Recent years represented the best period of bilateral ties and both sides have expanded exchanges in various fields, he said, believing that their friendly cooperation will further expand.

Both Wen and Megawati believed the spirit of the Asian-African Conference held 40 years ago in Bandung should be upheld, and that the principles of equality, mutual benefit and mutual respect in particular should govern international relations.
