US Kicks off Largest Military Experiment

US Joint Forces Command Wednesday kicked off "Millennium Challenge 2002", the largest military experiment in US history, with 13,500 military and civilian personnel participating.

The experiment will bring together live field forces in California and Nevada and computer simulations across the United States, with the purpose of testing and validating several joint and service-specific experimental war-fighting concepts, said the Joint Forces Command.

The experiment will focus on how the army can provide an integrated, joint approach for conducting rapid and decisive operations using transformational knowledge with today's equipmentand weapon systems, according to the Joint Forces Command.

The command claimed that information learned and validated during the experiment will help to give answers to questions aboutthe development of a future joint force and provide valuable data to US decision-makers responsible for military transformation.

The experiment is expected to last three weeks before concluding on August 15.
