Foreign Minister Meets Sri Lanka PM Envoy

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan held talks with Sri Lankan prime ministerial envoy Karu Jayasuriya in Beijing Friday.

Tang said the two nations treated each other as equals and had respected and understood each other since diplomatic relations were established 45 years ago.

Jayasuriya said the Sri Lankan people were very friendly with the Chinese people and the close relations between the two main Sri Lanka parties and China indicated that relations were stable and mature.

He also briefed Tang on the situation in Sri Lanka, saying that if Sri Lanka could return to peace as soon as possible, the nation would have a brighter future.

Tang said China firmly supported the Sri Lanka government's endeavors to promote national peace as well as maintain unification and stability. China hoped to see Sri Lanka remain stable and develop, he said.
