Indian Vice President Dies of Heart Attack

Indian Vice President Krishan Kant died of massive heart attack on Saturday morning, Medical Superintendent R. Sarma of All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS) announced in New Delhl.

Kant, 75, complained of severe chest pain and was admitted to AIIMS at 0738 AM local time on Saturday and was declared dead at 0845 hours.

A team of heart specialists had tried to resuscitate Kant and also put him on a pacemaker, Sarma said, adding that despite best efforts he could not be revived.

Kant was elected as vice president of the country in 1997 and his term is due in October this year.

Indian cabinet is scheduled to hold an emergency meeting later on Saturday to condole the death of the vice president.
