HK to Launch Lantern Display

Colorful Lunar New Year lantern displays and traditional cultural performances will be staged at the Hong Kong International Airport starting from January 7.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of "2001 Lantern Display and Cultural Performances at the Airport", Paul S. W. Leung, director of leisure and cultural services, said four groups of lantern display filled with Lunar New Year and Spring Lantern Festival ambiance will be staged at the Arrival Hall and the Departure Hall, starting from January 7 to February 14.

Concurrently, six matinee performances will be staged on three Sundays, he added.

He said that to promote local culture among visitors, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department was also organizing display on arts exhibits at the Airport.

Four series of festive lanterns are placed at seven different sites of the Airport Passenger Terminal Building.

The event "2001 Lantern Display and Cultural Performances at the Airport" presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department in association with the Airport Authority Hong Kong, is aimed at promoting traditional Chinese culture among tourists and local community, and serving as a lead-up to the annual Spring Lantern Festival.
