HK People Praise Mother Love on Mother's Day

Eating out, taking family photos, presenting flowers ... Hong Kong people have got many ideas to express their love and care to their beloved moms on Mother's Day.

Carnation has always been one of the most preferred flowers on Mother's Day as it represents mother love. However, some florists said red rose seems to have replaced carnation to be at the top of the most popular flower list this year.

Laser carving on flower pedals, which emerged in the past one or two years, has caught the attraction of many people who want something trendy and creative. "I love you," "wish you healthy," "happy always" ... children are able to present their blessings to their mothers through the words carved on flower pedals.

As Hong Kong's economy springs up, people have a higher buying potential. A representative of a jewelry shop said more people decided to present their mothers jeweled ornaments. Some jewelry shops are promoting ornaments especially designed for Mother's Day.

Apart from presenting gifts, Hong Kong people who like eating would never forget to arrange a delicious meal for their mothers. Due to the rising popularity of Korean culture in Hong Kong, Korean cuisine has become the first choice for dining out. By using traditional Korean food, in addition to some Hong Kong elements, Korean eateries hope to bring something new and fresh to customers.

For young children who may not be able to present costly gifts or arrange rich meals for their mothers, they have their own way to make mummy smile.

At Tsim Sha Tsui Harbor City, a giant Mother's Day cake has been set up as a special photo taking area. In front of the giant cake, little photographers were directing their moms and other family members to give interesting postures.

On Friday, some 20 kindergarten children in neat and tidy chef uniforms gathered at the concourse of a shopping mall and got ready to show their cooking skills.

They put their greatest effort in making cakes for their mothers under the instructions of professional chefs. "Yummy!" This was the answer of mothers with their heart sweetened.

Some organizations in Hong Kong are also presenting activities in celebration of Mother's Day. Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong on Saturday arranged some mentally disabled people to demonstrate "saori," a special weaving method, to the public.

They made handicrafts such as scarves, cup mat and Mother's Day cards by using the "saori" method and put them on sale for charity purpose.

Other Mother's Day activities held in Hong Kong also included photo exhibitions, competitions, health seminars etc. to praise mother love.
