'Dreaming China' Pushes New Round in Star-making Stream

The final of the high-profile Chinese singing contest "Dreaming China" successfully concluded in Beijing, airing live on CCTV2 on Monday night.

Twenty-year old Wu Wenjing from Nanjing was named the "Golden Butterfly" winner by audiences voting through mobile phone text messages.

Hong Kong singer-actress Kelly Chen also performed as a guest supporter of Wu Wenjing, predicting on stage that Wu would most probably be crowned champion.

Although Hong Kong actor Shawn Yue showed up as the guest supporter of runner-up Zhang Chenlei from Liaoning province and third-place winner Zheng Fan from Shandong Province, they were still overshadowed by Wu's outstanding performances.

The competition is recognized as another round in the Chinese star-making trend, after the Chinese version of "American Idol," known as "Super Girls," attracted millions of Chinese fans and hopeful starlets.
