Waitresses Vie for Hooters Tiara, US Trip

Shanghai Hooters Restaurant, known for its sexy and friendly waitresses, held its first anniversary party as well as a national Miss Hooters Competition on Saturday night.

Zhou Shouya (center), Ye Hanlu (right) and Pan Qiulin celebrate after finishing the Miss Hooters Competition on Saturday. One of them will join the Hooters International Swimsuit Pageant in Las Vegas next year.

Ten finalists were selected from more than 60 Hooters girls following preliminary contests over the past few months.

The competition included a self-introduction in English, catwalks and acting. A panel of four judges picked three winners - Zhou Shouya, Ye Hanlu and Pan Qiulin. One of them will join the 10th annual Hooters International Swimsuit Pageant in Las Vegas next year.

Zhou said she has worked at Hooters for one year and felt, well, "lucky" to be a Hooters waitress.

"I can meet new friends, broaden my mind and have fun," she said. "Hooters makes me happy. I can't change the weather but I can change my mood."

The restaurant donated 50 percent of its profit that day to the Shanghai Charity Foundation. Owners declined to release how much was donated.

Hooters will open its second Shanghai restaurant in Pudong New Area at the beginning of next year. According to the company, it will likely open its first restaurant in Beijing as well.

The us-based restaurant chain, launched its first outlet in China in Hongqiao in October 2004, bringing its racy combination of cold beer, chicken wings and skimpily-dressed waitresses to China.

Shanghai hooters officials said the restaurant is popular among expatriates and Chinese white collar professionals consider it "charming."
