Family of 3 to Donate Corneas

A family of three in Shenzhen has signed a will to donate their corneas after their deaths, the Shenzhen Red Cross said earlier this week.

Liang Xiaoming, a disabled person, his wife and 10-year-old son became Shenzhen's first family to donate corneas, according to the Red Cross.

Liang, who was born in Jiangxi Province, contracted infantile paralysis at age 3 and became handicapped in his lower limbs. He came to Shenzhen in 1994 and now runs a fashion shop of his own.

Liang said he has experienced more hardships than most trying to earn a living, but feels he is also more fortunate than others due to the special care he has received from society. "Now it is time for me to give," he said.

Liang was Shenzhen's first donor of Project Care in 2003 when the city launched the campaign in a citywide effort to help those in need.
