HK Disneyland to Introduce New Attractions

Hong Kong Disneyland will introduce three new attractions -- Stitch Encounter, Autopia and UFO Zone -- this summer, the theme park's managing director Bill Ernest said here Monday.

Ernest said during a Legislative Council (LegCo) meeting that the company will use operational revenue to pay for the new attractions and not seek funding from the Hong Kong government, also a shareholder of the company.

Stitch Encounter is a show full of comedy and action where guests will have a tour of Space Traffic Control in Tomorrow Land, according to Disneyland. During the tour, guests will play with Stitch, a fluffy blue alien in a spaceship.

At Autopia, guests can drive electric cars that cruise along the highways of tomorrow. The cars will jet around an alien landscape filled with strange-looking trees and shrubs.

As to UFO Zone, it is a play area designed for guests of all ages, said the park. There are colorful and oversized props including a mischievous robot that sprays water and makes noises when his buttons are pushed.

Ernest also promised at the meeting that incidents like the unpleasant ticketing chaos during the Chinese Lunar New Year holidays will never happen again.

For two continuous days, Feb. 1 and Feb. 2, hundreds of visitors, mainly from the Chinese mainland with tickets valid for 180 days, were shut out of the park, which witnessed maximum daily reception shortly after opening.

He said they were working with key travel trade partners to avoid a recurrence of such chaos ever again.
