Fashion Show to be Staged in Tiananmen Square
A batch of top fashion designers from France, Italy, Denmark and other countries will gather in Beijing and, together with Chinese partners, to stage a large fashion show in the Tiananmen Square at 8 pm, August 23, kicking off a string of activities under the theme "2002 Fashion Beijing".

The opening ceremony will be held on the eastern side of the square, in front of the western gate of the National Museum of Chinese History, as learned from the organizing committee. It is the first time for activity of such kind to be held in the Tiananmen Square.

Based on an internationally accepted mode, the activity takes fashion show as its main theme and is supported by other artistic performances on a stage 50 meters long covering an area of 600 square meters. A staff of 800 people, including models and other performers, will participate in the activity, which would last a whole three hours.

The "2002 Fashion Beijing" activity is jointly sponsored by China Garment Group Co, Ltd, China National Culture & Art Co, Ltd and Beijing Capital Tourism Group. Like fashion weeks established in Paris, Milan, New York and London, the "Fashion Beijing" would be internationally accepted as a fashion week in Beijing, the organizing committee said.
