Food Quality Guaranteed in Beijing's Markets During May Day Holidays
Quality of food in Beijing's markets is guaranteed during the five-day May Day holiday despite the spread of SARS in the city, through a market survey conducted Monday by the municipal administration for industry and commerce.

The administration carried out a random survey on Monday, taking 45 vegetable samples and 57 fresh meat samples in 23 markets scattered throughout the city's seven districts and counties. All of the samples taken met the standards of the inspection team.

During the holidays, the supply of commodities and vegetables on Beijing's markets was adequate.

According to the price monitoring exercise conducted by the administration Monday on 40 markets and supermarkets, the prices of rice, wheat flour, foodstuff, cooking oil, salt, dairy products, vegetables, meat, eggs, toilet paper, laundry detergents and liquid disinfectant remain stable.

Sales volumes of farm produce and by-products also remain stable, and the price index dropped slightly, according to the statistics from the Beijing Municipal Price Association.
