Stem Cell Donor

Meng Xiaoye, the first stem cell donor from Beijing, lies on a bed for blood collection accompanied by her boy friend at a hospital in Beijing, China, Nov. 19, 2003.

Her donation will be directly sent by the Zhonghua Marrow Bank to Shanghai for a transplant operation of a marrow tumor patient. The Zhonghua Marrow Bank has collected 82,000 samples from volunteers by Sept. 2003, and 65 volunteers have successfully donated their stem cells for patients by Oct. 2003.
