Feasibility Study on Qinghai-Tibet Railway Passes Assessment

Chinese railway experts recently approved a feasibility study on construction of the railway section between Lhasa and Golmud on the Qinghai-Tibet railway line.

The 1,956 km Qinghai-Tibet Railway will connect Xining, capital of northwest China's Qinghai Province, with Lhasa, capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region.

Work on the 846-km-long section between Xining and Golmud was completed in 1984.

The State Council approved the project of the Golmud-Lhasa section last February. The Railway Ministry has set up a leading group and organized over 1,000 designers for consultations.

A leading group for examining maps of the Qinghai-Tibet railway construction was set up recently. Construction of a 50-km-long section from Golmud to Naij Tal is soon to begin.
