China's top 100 international travel service providers and the National Tourism Administration (NTA) has named top 100 domestic travel agencies in the year 2000.

China International Travel Service, the China Youth Travel Service and the China Travel Service (CTS) were ranked the three best among some 1,200 international travel service providers.

The Shanghai-based Chunqiu (Spring and Autumn) Travel Service, the Hangzhou Garden Tourism and Trade Company in Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, and the Capital Travel Service under CTS were the leaders of about 8,000 travel agencies which provide domestic tourism service only.

The NTA announced the results Saturday at the ongoing 2001 China Tourism Trade Fair in Chengdu, capital of southwestern province of Sichuan, after an annual examination of the implementation of service standards, quality of service, and the internal management of all travel agencies.

The top 100 travel agencies are mainly located in major cities and travel destinations of 21 Chinese provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.

However, 170 travel agencies, or 2 percent of the total, failed to pass the annual examination and will be disqualified from the industry, according to the NTA
