Lesser Sloth Monkeys Settle in Beijing Zoo

Two lesser sloth monkeys (Nycticebus pygmaeus) Shasha and Tiantian were put on outdoor display in Beijing Zoo for the first time recently.

They play together on a banyan tree in the zoo leisurely and seem not to notice the visitors all around them.

Nycticebus pygmaeus is found in the secondary forests of many different countries including Vietnam, Laos, China, Thailand, and parts of Cambodia. This species is closely related to Nycticebus coucang and they share the same geographic range.

Nycticebus pygmaeus is the only animal species belonging to the Prosimii category found in China.
