Scenic City Attracts International Tourists

Huangshan City in east China's Anhui Province has been successful in turning itself to be an international modern tourist city in terms of infrastructure and facilities.

The city boasts the scenic Huangshan Mountain in its suburbs, which is listed as a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

In 1998 the city government, followed by local enterprises, moved out of the downtown area to make room for real estate development. The downtown land was re-planned and rented to real estate developers to build hotels and other facilities.

The city raised funds to improve its road network through selling the rights to name new roads and the rights to run advertisements along new roads.

In recent years, the city has launched 154 projects to improve its infrastructure, involving a total investment of 6.4 billion yuan (US$771 million).

Over the past three years, the city has invested 5.26 billion yuan in key projects, equal to the total investment in the past 13 years before the period.
