Renowned martial-arts novelist Louis Cha - or Jin Yong in Mandarin - has resigned from his post as dean of the culture department and tutor of doctoral students at Zhejiang University.

The news has been confirmed by university headmaster Pan Yunhe - to whom Cha delivered his resignation letter.

Cha has not disclosed the reasons for his resignation.

Louis Cha was invited by Zhejiang University to be a professor in 1999, and was warmly welcomed by the student body as he gave many lectures in spite of his busy schedule.
