Director Xie Fei to Be Discharged from Hospital
Renowned Chinese movie director Xie Fei is expected to be discharged from a Beijing hospital Friday with his recovery from SARS.

The 61-year-old veteran director says he will be isolated at home for half a month, after which he is to receive a check-up at hospital to make sure there's no relapse. He attributes his recovery to an optimistic mind as well as timely medical treatment.

Xie Fei was sent to a major designated hospital in Beijing on the 22nd of last month. He was the oldest patient there.

Xie is internationally known as one of the most prominent "Fifth Generation" directors from China. He was awarded the Best Director for the 1995 feature film A MONGOLIAN TALE at the 19th Montreal World Film Festival. The 1992 feature film THE WOMEN FROM THE LAKE OF SCENTED SOULS received the Golden Bear Award at the 1993 Berlin International Film Festival. BLACK SNOW (1989), an earlier feature by Xie Fei, also received the Silver Bear Award at the 1990 Berlin International Film Festival and Best Film of A Hundred Flowers Award in China.
