Lift off for Space School

Space school in for a select group of Beijing students! The young scientists are getting a rare chance to explore the world beyond the Earth's atmosphere.

The space school is organized by the Beijing Planetarium and the British Embassy's Culture and Education Section. About 100 lucky students from Beijing high schools are on the 5-day course. It's the second time the event's been held and organizers hope it will fire the students' imagination, creativity and practical skills.

"Space School in Britain basically is to promote science technology and space to young people. So it does it by serious talks with specialists and by hand-on practice, where young people actually get the chance to use and develop some skills that they would need in space industry," said Mark Bentley, British scientist.

During the course, Chinese students will attend lectures, visit the science and technology museum and set up Mars bases. They will also get the chance to put their engineering skills to the test in a robot challenge.
