China to Bolster Energy Infrastructure
China will continue its effort to build and reinforce energy infrastructure to ensure it is friendly to the economy and the environment over the next five years.

Sources from the Conference of Local Electric Power Investment Committees called by China Investment Association in Fuzhou told that the State Council might approve the plan for a reform of national electric power system.

China Tries to Tap Cleaner Energy
China is working to use more solar, wind and geothermal energy to reduce its reliance on coal. The renewable energy used will make up 0.7 percent of the total consumption by 2005, according to the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Alcohol Fuel Plant Construction Begins
As part of a pilot program to develop new energy resources, China started construction Saturday of a plant to produce alcohol fuel from grains in Jilin City of northeastern Jilin Province, one of the major grain producing areas in the country.
