Blast at McDonald's Kills One, Injures 28 in Xi'an

One person was killed and 28 were injured by an explosion at 6:48 pm on Saturday in the McDonald's fast food restaurant in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

Meanwhile, police have determined that a string of explosions that killed five people ina the cities of Zhanjiang and Jiangmen in south China's Guangdong Province were caused by Lin Guojian.

In the Xi'an explosion, the person killed is believed to be the perpetrator of the explosion, according to local police sources after their initial investigation.

The 28 victims were sent to three hospitals in Xi'an, where doctors and nurses did everything possible in the way of medical treatment throughout the night. At present, two of the victims who were slightly injured have returned home and the remaining victims were hospitalized and are in stable condition, said a local official in charge of the rescue work.

Wang Xinwu, manager of the Xi'an McDonald's, said the restaurant reopened for business at 9 am yesterday.

"We received as many customers as usual and our business has not been affected much," Wang said.

In Guangdong, the criminal case involving 23 explosions in the cities of Zhanjiang and Jiangmen on Friday morning has been cleared up, according to a police press conference held on Saturday in Zhanjiang.

Lin Guojian, the suspect, who plotted the explosions due to family and economic conflicts, has been confirmed dead as a result of his suicidal explosion attempt, police said, adding that the explosions have killed five people and injured seven others.
