More Shanghaiese Using Handsets to Serf the Internet

At present, mobile phone users in Shanghai not only can communicate with others, but also can use their handsets to serf the Internet, enjoy various bank services and acquire information on the stock market.

As of early February this year, the mobile phone users in Shanghai, China’s leading industrial and commercial city, has exceeded three million.

The number is the biggest among China’s major cities, according to Shanghai Mobile Communications Company (SMCC).

SMCC will offer more services to cater to people from all walks of life in the next two years, which range from wireless advertisements, shopping, e-mail boxes to special services for enterprises.

There were 10,000 mobile phone users in Shanghai in 1992, sources said.
