Shanghai will open a 40,000-square-meter park along Huashan Road in central downtown's Changning District by the year-end,Jiefang Daily reported today.

The city began yesterday to demolish 11 old factories and buildings in the area using explosive materials to make room for the park.

A total of more than 200 families and 19 work units have already moved out and been relocated.

Some 1,500 big trees will be planted in the park.
