Major Trestle Bridge Completed in Three Gorges Area

The construction of a 1,228- meter-long trestle bridge was completed Friday in the Three Gorges Area, the world's largest water conservancy project, in southwest China.

The 20.5-meter wide and 122.5-meter-high bridge will provide strong support for placement engineering work of the Three Gorges Dam, which has a designed height of 185 meters and is to be operational in 2003.

With an ability to handle 20-ton trucks and 200-ton platform trailers, the bridge will play an important role in the transportation of workers and building materials, and the installation of equipment and telecommunications facilities.
