Shenzhen to Host Int'l Garden City Competition

Shenzhen, a metropolis in south China's Guangdong Province will host the 2001 International Garden City Competition on November 29.

The competition is the largest of its kind with 34 cities from 18 countries being entered in the final competition, says a local official.

Entries are divided into five divisions according to the population of their city.

Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province, will represent China's cities with population of over one million.

Statistics show that the United States has seven cities entered with entries in each of the five divisions. Britain has entered six cities.

In addition, cities in Canada, Australia, Spain, Germany, Japan,Russia, Sweden, Ireland, Finland, Slovakia, Ecuador, South Africa,the Netherlands, Slovenia and Uganda will also participate in the competition.

The competition has been annually held since 1997. Shenzhen City won last year's competition which was held in Washington, capital of the United States.
