China Hosts Ninth College Students' Film Festival

The Ninth College Students' Film Festival, with the theme of "Youth, Art and Culture," opened at the Beijing Normal University Sunday.

During the one-month festival 27 Chinese films, including the " Purple Sun", "Who Says I Don't Care", "Plateau Dream" and "Subway to Spring", will be shown at colleges and universities nationwide and will compete for various awards such as the best film, best director, best actor and best actress.

The film festival is jointly sponsored by the Beijing Normal University, a video program center under the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, the China Film Information Museum, the China Film Foundation, Beijing Students' Union and two film companies.

All the films or people nominated for awards will be selected by a committee composed of college students and young critics. The final results will be announced on May 24.

Huang Huilin, an official with the organizing committee, said that a series of seminars and academic exchanges on high-tech and China's film development will be held during the festival.
