Hong Kong's New Subway Station in Smooth Operation

Yau Tong, a new station along theHong Kong subway, was open to public Sunday to provide more convenience to passengers crossing the Victoria Harbor in east Kowloon.

Traffic condition in the vicinity of the newly commissioned YauTong Station was in good order and service level of public transport was satisfactory, according to the Transport Department (TD) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR).

Yau Tong Station is located at the Tseung Kwan O Line (TKOL) ofthe Hong Kong subway, which is known as Mass Transit Railway (MTR).

The TKOL will commission on August 18 to serve the Tseung Kwan O and Yau Tong areas.

TD activated the Emergency Transport Coordination Center (ETCC)to monitor traffic and public transport services upon the opening of Yau Tong Station Sunday.

At TD Headquarters, while observing traffic condition in the vicinity of Yau Tong Station, officers kept close liaison with buscompanies, green mini-bus operators and Mass Transit Railway Corporation Limited (MTRCL) for first hand information on service adequacy and passenger flow.

TD will continue to activate ETCC Monday to closely monitor thetraffic and public transport services on the first working day after the opening of Yau Tong Station.
