Guiyang to Host International Kite Festival

The International Kite Festival, the first one in the new millennium, will be held in Guiyang, Southwest China, which is known as the City of Aluminum.

According to the China Sports Administration, the 6th China International Kite Festival and the 11th China National Kite Tournament are scheduled for April 15 to 18, 2001 in Baiyun District of Guiyang.

Some dozen teams from foreign lands or over 100 kite flyers will be invited to show up at the International Kite Festival. Six world-class prizes including "Best Craftsmanship", "Best Design", "Best way of flying", "Best creation" and the "Longest and Biggest ones in kite-making" will be awarded to those winners. For the China National Kite Tournament, players from China's mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan will be drawn to participate in around 30 events of 11 kinds of kite flying. During the festival, traditional Chinese and foreign genre of kites plus those of recherché arts will be put on show in the Baiyun Kite Museum along with a series of activities like kite show and making, exchanges of experiences, sales and researches and so on.
