Grade one pupils of Xinjian Road No. 2 Elementary School of Taiyuan use their new Chinese textbooks September 3, 2003. Newly admitted primary school and middle school students were using the experimental textbooks designed for the new curriculum from this term onward. This autumn, there would be 1,072 new national basic education curriculum reform experimental zones added. The total number of the zones will reach 1,642. Thirty five million students will use the new textbooks, thus accounting for 40-50 percent of the total number of students in the same grades. (China.org.cn, 17thcongress.org.cn)
