A spokesman for the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said here Sunday that more than 1,900 journalists have registered for covering the five-yearly event.

A total of 807 domestic journalists and 1,135 journalists from 55 other countries and regions are reporting the congress, which is regarded as the most important political event in China this year, Li said.

The congress is scheduled to open on Oct. 15 and will last a week.
