7 to 21    Wang Jiarui, Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the CPC and Head of its International Department led a delegation visiting Spain, Austria and Italy. Invitations had been extended by the Spanish Socialist Party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) of Austria and Italy's Democratic Party of the Left. In Spain, the delegation met with President of the Senate, Javier Rojo and with Party Secretary General Jose Blanco. In Austria, they met with Parliament Speaker, Andreas Kohl and SPD Chairman Alfred Gusenbauer. In Italy, they met with Prime Minister Romano Prodi, House Speaker Fausto Bertinotti, President of the Senate Franco Marini, and with Democratic Party of the Left Chairman and Deputy Prime Minister, Massimo D'Alema.

 

9 to 15    At the invitation of the CPC, a delegation from the Portuguese Socialist Party led by Jose Socrates Central Political Committee Member and International Secretary visited China. Liu Yunshan, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC met with the delegation.

 

9 to 20    A CPC delegation of young cadres, led by Zhang Jinan, Member of the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, visited Greece, Portugal and Spain. They had been invited by the New Democratic Party of Greece, the Communist Party of Spain and the Socialist Party of Portugal.

 

13 to 20  A delegation from the Nigeria People's Democratic Party led by Barrister Ibrahim Shema, National Vice President of Nigeria, visited China at the invitation of the CPC. Wu Guanzheng, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC met with the delegation. Wu Guanzheng expressed the hope that China and Nigeria can work together to promote mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. He reiterated that China would continue to develop a friendly relationship between the two sides and form a new strategic partnership. China stands ready to work with all African countries to raise Sino-African relationships to the next level. 

        

14 to 19  At the invitation of the CPC, a Sudanese National Congress Party Delegation led by Vice President and Assistant to the President, Nafie Ali Nafie visited China. Wu Bangguo and Li Changchun, Members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and Zhou Yongkang, Member of the Central Political Bureau met with the delegation. Wu Bangguo said that as ruling parties in both countries, the CPC and the Sudanese National Congress Party should strengthen their understanding and friendship and contribute further to the development of Sino-Sudanese relations. He emphasized that China is willing to work with Sudan to build a lasting and stable bilateral relationship.     

 

14 to 20  Pedro Saez Montejo, Member of the Cuban Communist Party Central Committee Political Bureau and First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Cuban Communist Party of Havana, visited China. He was in Beijing at the invitation of Liu Qi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee. He met with Liu Qi and Jia Qinglin, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC. Jia said that the bilateral relationship had entered a new stage of comprehensive development. He emphasized that the CPC attaches great importance to its relationship with the Cuban Communist Party and hopes to further strengthen cooperation in all fields based on principles of independence, complete equality, mutual respect and noninterference in each other's internal affairs.

 

16 to 20  At the invitation of the CPC, Eero Heinaluoma, Chairman of the Finnish Social Democratic Party and Deputy Prime Minister of the Finish Government, visited China. Wu Guanzheng, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC met with him. Wu spoke highly of relations between the two parties. He expressed the hope that the two sides could deepen their communication and contribute further to Sino-Finnish relations.

 

16 to 26  At the invitation of the CPC, a delegation from the Namibia South West Africa People's Organization led by Party President and Former-President of Namibia Sam Nujoma, visited China. Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPC, Li Changchun, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC, together with Zhang Lichang and Zhang Dejiang, Members of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC met with the delegation. Hu Jintao said that the CPC and the Chinese Government attach great importance to China-Namibia relations. He said that China is ready to deepen the traditional friendship and strengthen cooperation with Namibia in all areas and that the two parties should further strengthen their cooperation and raise the bilateral relationship to a higher level based on principles of independence, complete equality, mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal affairs.

 

21 to 27  At the invitation of the CPC, a delegation from the European People's Party and the European Democrats (EPP-ED) led by chairman Hans-Gert Poettering visited China. Li Changchun, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and Wang Zhaoguo, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC met with the delegation. Li Changchun said that the two parties had played an important role in promoting communication and cooperation. The CPC is willing to talk with all political parties in the European Parliament. He also said that the CPC would work to build a stronger and more comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Europe.  

                      

22 May to June 1 At the invitation of the CPC, a delegation from the Mozambique Liberation Front Party led by Hama Tai, Member of the Political Bureau, visited China. Liu Qi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC met with the delegation.   

           

22 to 26  At the invitation of the CPC, a delegation from the Citizen's Will-Republican Party of Mongolia led by Party President S. Oyun visited China. Liu Yunshan, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC met with the delegation.       

          

22 to 27  At the invitation of the CPC, a delegation from the Japanese Communist Party (JCP) led by Fuwa Tetsuzo, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the JCP, visited China. He Guoqiang, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC met with the delegation.   

           

23 to 27  At the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, a delegation from the German Social Democratic Party (SDP) led by Deputy Chairman of the SDP Parliamentary Group Jurgen Walter visited China. Wang Gang, Alternate Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and Zhou Tienong, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) met with the delegation.   

 

24 May to June 1   At the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, a delegation from the Indian Nationalist Congress Party led by Shri Y.P. Trivedi visited China. He Luli, Vice Chairwoman of the NPC Standing Committee met with the delegation.   

 

26 May to June 2   At the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, a delegation from the Pakistan People's Party led by Party Vice President Makhdum Amin Fahim visited China. Ismail Amat, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) met with the delegation.     

          

26 May to June 5   A CPC delegation led by He Yiting, Deputy Director of the Central Policy Research Office, visited Lao, Vietnam, and Cambodia at the invitation of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Cambodia People's Party and the Cambodian FUNCINPEC Party.

 

28 to 30 At the invitation of the CPC, a Cambodian FUNCINPEC party delegation led by Secretary General and Deputy Prime Minister, Nhek Bunchhay visited China. He Yong, Secretary of the Central Secretariat of the CPC met the delegation.    

 

29 May to June 8 At the invitation of the Philippines Young Politicians Foundation and the Malaysian Chinese Association, Bo Jimin, Member of the Standing Committee of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee of the CPC and Chairman of the Provincial Federation of Trade Union led a delegation of young Chinese politicians and young CPC cadres visiting the Philippines and Malaysia.
