CPC diplomacy dossier: June 2006

2 to 14    A CPC delegation headed by Zhang Dejiang, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and Party Secretary of Guangdong Province, visited Oman, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Invitations had been extended by the Government of Oman, the Saudi Consultative Conference, and the Turkish Justice and Development Party. In Oman, the delegation met with Deputy Prime Minister Fahad bin Mahoud Al-Said. In Saudi Arabia, they met with HRH King Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz Al Saud. In Turkey, they met with Prime Minister and President of the Turkish Justice and Development Party Recep Tayyip Erdogan. During the visits, Zhang Dejiang took the opportunity to share views on China's current political and economic situation with particular reference to economic growth in Guangdong Province. He spoke with appreciation of the three countries' adherence to the One-China Principle. He also noted that China would make joint efforts with all parties involved to further promote friendly cooperation.

 

4 to 17   At the invitation of the Cuban Communist Party and the Democratic Party of Chile, a CPC delegation headed by Luo Baoming, Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the CPC and Deputy Secretary of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee visited Cuba and Chile. In Cuba, the delegation met with Fidel Castro Ruz, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Councils of State and Ministers. In Chile, they met with Vice President Eduardo Frei, with Antonio Leal Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, and with Education Minister Sergio Bitar.

 

5 to 11    At the invitation of the CPC, a delegation from the German Left Party - Democratic Socialist Party (PDS) headed by Dr Lothar Bisky visited China. Wu Guanzheng, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC met with the delegation. Wu Guanzheng said that developing a Sino-German partnership within the comprehensive strategic Sino-European partnership framework will not only benefit the two countries and their peoples, but will also contribute to world peace and stability. Wu said that China is willing to make joint efforts with Germany to further strengthen cooperation and exchanges in all fields, including party-to-party relations, in order to further promote sound Sino-German relations.  

 

5 to 23    At the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, a delegation of Cadres from the Sudanese National Congress Party visited China.     

 

6 to 19    Following invitations from the Legislative Court of Uzbekistan and the Governments of Bulgaria, Switzerland, and Norway, Li Changchun, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC visited these four countries. In Uzbekistan, Li met with President Islam Karimov and with Erkin Kh. Khalilov Uzbek Legislative Court Speaker. In Bulgaria, he met with President Georgi Parvanov and with Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev. In Switzerland, he met with President Moritz Leuenberger. In Norway, he met with Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and with Karl Hagen Acting President of the Norwegian Parliament. Li Changchun outlined China's foreign policy and strategy of peaceful development and its stance on major international and regional issues. He said that the CPC and the Chinese Government highly value friendly and cooperative relations with other countries. China would step up political, economic, trade, cultural and educational cooperation with other nations to further enhance bilateral relations.   

 

10 to 15  At the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, a delegation from the Venezuela Fifth Republic Movement visited China. Gu Xiulian, Vice Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) met with the delegation.  

 

10 to 17  At the invitation of the CPC, a delegation from the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) headed by Joyce Mujuru Vice Chairwoman and Vice President of Zimbabwe visited China. Zeng Qinghong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and Yu Zhengsheng, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC, met with the delegation. Gu Xiulian, Vice Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) also held talks with the delegation. Zeng Qinghong said China attaches great importance to friendly and cooperative China-Zimbabwe relations. The CPC would work hard to expand party-to-party exchanges based on the four principles of independence, complete equality, mutual respect, and non-interference in each other's internal affairs in order to further promote the development of Sino-Zimbabwean relations. China will work together with all African states to raise Sino-African relations to a new level.

 

11 to 18   A delegation from the Sri Lanka United National Party headed by Karu Jayasuriya, Deputy Head of the Party, visited China at the invitation of the CPC. Wu Guanzheng, Member of Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC met with the delegation. Wu Guanzheng said that China would work with Sri Lanka to further promote cooperation and the time-honored friendship between the two countries.

 

12 to 22  At the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, a delegation from the People's Democratic Union of Cameroon visited China. Zhou Tienong, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) met with the delegation.

 

12 to 25  At the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, a delegation of Senior Officials from 11 African political parties visited China to attend a seminar themed on "Ethnic Groups, Religions and Poverty Alleviation - How to Build a Harmonious Society in Developing Countries". Liu Qi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC met with the delegation. Delegates had come from Burundi, Cameroon, Congo (Brazzaville), Djibouti, Guinea, Mauritius, Niger, Rwanda, Togo, Gabon, and Chad.

 

13 to 20  At the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, Venizelos Zannettos, Politburo Member and Economic Secretary of the Working People Progressive Party (WPPP) of Cyprus, visited China.

 

17 to 29  At the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, a delegation from the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and Ministry of Culture headed by Dao Duy Quat, Vice Cultural Minister, visited China.

 

20 to 24  At the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, a delegation from the Korean Worker's Party headed by Rim Hyong Mo, Secretary of the Party Committee of South P'yŏng'an Province visited China.   

 

20 to 27  At the invitation of the CPC, a delegation from the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Science and Education Ministry headed by Vice Minister Tran Ngoc Tang visited China.

 

20 to 28  At the invitation of the CPC, a delegation from the Bangladesh Awami League headed by its General Secretary, General Mohammed Abdul Jalil visited China. Luo Gan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC met with the delegation. Luo noted with appreciation that China and Bangladesh are friendly neighbors. China is willing to work with Bangladesh to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields to further enhance the comprehensive Sino-Bangladeshi partnership.

 

20 to 30  At the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, a delegation from the Syrian Baath Arab Socialist Party headed by Malik Muhammad Ali, Central Committee Leader, visited China.

 

22 to 29  At the invitation of the CPC, a delegation from the Indonesian Democratic Party headed by Megawati Soekarnoputri, Chairman and Former President of Indonesia, visited China. Jia Qinglin, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC, met with the delegation. Jia Qinglin said that China would adhere to a foreign policy characterized by promoting friendship and partnership with neighboring countries and helping neighboring states to achieve stability and prosperity. The Chinese side would work with Indonesia to strengthen bilateral cooperation in all fields and to foster a lasting friendly relationship.

 

24 June to 1 July    At the invitation of the CPC, a delegation from the Colombia Radical Change Party headed by Claudia Blum, who is a Member of the National Leadership Council, Congress President and also Senate President visited China. Wu Bangguo, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC, met with the delegation. Wu Bangguo expressed the hope that the two sides could further enhance cooperation and exchanges between the two governments, parliaments and political parties. The aim was to cultivate a sound and stable Sino-Colombian relationship.

 

25 June to 4 July    At the invitation of the CPC, a delegation from the Tunisian League for Democracy headed by Sadoq Fayala, First Deputy General Secretary visited China. Liu Yunshan, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC met with the delegation.

 

25 June to 4 July    At the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, a delegation of the Vanuatu Ruling Coalition headed by Party Regional Coordinator Feke Pedro Nimoho visited China.

 

25 June to 6 July    At the invitation of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, a delegation of the Salvado Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front headed by General Coordinator Medardo Gonzalez visited China. Luo Haocai, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) met with the delegation.

 

25 June to 8 July    A CPC delegation headed by Ma Wenpu, Vice Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC visited Liberia, Cape Verde, Namibia, and Sierra Leone. Invitations had been extended by the Unity Party of Liberia, the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde, the South West Africa People's Organization of Namibia and the Sierra Leone People's Party. In Liberia, the delegation met with President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, and with Charles Clarke, National Chairman of the Unity Party of Liberia. In Cape Verde, they met with Prime Minister Jose Maria Neves, President of the African Independence Party of Cape Verde. In Namibia, they met with Prime Minister, Hifikepunye Pohamba, Vice Chairman and President of the Namibia Party Group. In Sierra Leone, they met with President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah and with Vice President Solomon Berewa, Leader of the People's Party.

 

26 June to 3 July    A delegation from the People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan (PDPT) headed by Davlatali Davlatzoda, First Deputy Leader of the PDPT and First Vice President of the Party, visited China at the invitation of the CPC. He Yong, Secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the CPC met with the delegation.

 

26 June to 4 July    A delegation from the Iraqi Communist Party (ICP) headed by Hamid Majeed Moussa, General Secretary of the ICP, visited China at the invitation of the CPC. He Yong, Secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the CPC met with the delegation.

 

27 June to 2 July    Choummaly Sayasone, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and Laotian President, made a state visit to China at the invitation of Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPC and Chinese President. Hu held talks with General Secretary Choummaly. The two sides vowed to make concerted efforts to further advance their cooperation and to push forward their all-round friendly and cooperative relations to a new level. Hu said that the CPC and the Chinese government attach great importance to ties with Lao and are willing to make joint efforts with Lao to further advance Sino-Laotian relations. Hu also made four suggestions for further promoting ties between the two countries. Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao and Zeng Qinghong, all Members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC, also met with the Laotian President. The two sides also issued a joint press communiqué. 

 

27 June to 7 July    Jose De Venecia, speaker of the Philippines House of Representatives and Chairman of the Christian-Muslim Democrats Party, visited China at the invitation of Wu Bangguo, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress. Wu Bangguo together with Wu Guanzheng, also a Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC, Liu Yunshan and Zhang Dejiang, both Members of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC, met with Jose De Venecia. Wu noted that the deepening exchanges between the two parties and legislative bodies would further the development of bilateral ties in an all-round and sound manner.

 

29 to 30  Congratulatory messages marking the 85th anniversary of the founding of the CPC were received from Kim Jong Il, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Worker's Party of Korea, from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Communist Party, from the Central Committee of Lao People's Revolutionary Party, and from the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party.
