Hu Chunhua, first secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC), said Saturday that more than 1.1 million CYLC members joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 2006.

As an important aid and reserve to the CPC, Hu said in an interview session on the sidelines of the 17th CPC National Congress Saturday night, the CYLC recommended the 1.1 million outstanding league members to the CPC, which now has 73 million members.

The CYLC not only supplies the CPC with qualified members, but also prepares capable young people for Party and government positions.

Chinese President Hu Jintao, Wang Zhaoguo, vice chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, Li Keqiang, secretary of the CPC Liaoning Provincial Committee, Zhou Qiang, Hunan provincial governor, all served first secretary of the CYLC Central Committee Secretariat.
