Chinese Cultural Tour in S. Africa Launched

A Chinese cultural tour of Africa was launched in South Africa's Pretoria Tuesday, with dances and songs, a musical instrument show and photo exhibition.

Chinese State Councilor Chen Zhili, who arrived in Pretoria on Sunday, was among 700 audiences, including both Chinese and South African cultural ministers.

South Africa is the first leg of the Chinese cultural tour on the African continent.

Before the cultural performances, South African Deputy President Jacob Zuma met with the Chinese delegation headed by Chen in the presidential palace.

Chen said China attaches great importance to bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the fields of culture, education, science and technology.

China will further its efforts to enhance its relation with South Africa in various fields, she said, expressing hope that cultural exchange between the two countries will be an example of diversified cultures in the world.

Zuma said South Africa and China share similar historical development and the two countries have always helped and supported each other.

South Africa attaches great importance to the role played by China in the international arena, he said, adding that his country would like to coordinate its stance with China and strengthen cooperation.
