Jackie Chan Lights Up Beijing with New Film

There were too many reasons for Chinese film fans to be at the Beijing Oriental Plaza on Sunday night. Stars from the lineup of Jackie Chan's latest film "New Police Story", including Chan himself, Nicholas Tse and Charlene Choi, made it to the star-studded premiere.

Jackie Chan's long-awaited film had a spectacular opening Sunday night at downtown Beijing. Crowds of fans showed up hours early, hoping to get a closer look at their idols. When Jackie Chan and Charlie Yeung finally stepped on to the red carpet, the excited fans went wild.

New Police Story sees Jackie Chan, a police legend who's cracked 100 percent of his cases in the past, faced with something completely new in the era of E-crime. The crime boss is a computer games enthusiast who kills seven of Chan's buddies as if in a game. Jackie Chan is no longer the jokey and unbeaten figure of most of his films.

The Police Story series was launched in Hong Kong twenty years ago, rocketing Jackie Chan to fame in his early thirties. At the premiere, Jackie Chan said many Chinese had grown up with the "Police Story" series, and he hoped the latest production would play the same role for young Chinese today.
