Art Performance Staged in HK to Celebrate PRC Founding Anniversary

Art Performance of Hong Kong Compatriots for Celebrating the 55th Founding Anniversary of People's Republic of China (PRC) was held at Hong Kong's Hung Hom Stadium Saturday evening.

Henry Ying Tung Fok, vice chairman of the Chinese People's Consultative Conference and chairman of the Preparing Committee on Celebrating the 55th Founding Anniversary of PRC of Hong Kong Compatriots made a speech before the start of the show.

Fok said that since the founding of new China in 1949, especially since the implementation of opening-up and reform policy in late 1970's, China has made remarkable achievements in various fields, and China's status has improved internationally, of which all Hong Kong compatriots and Chinese people are proud.

He said, since Hong Kong's return to the motherland in 1997, the special administrative region has been supported by the central government and HK is now on track of recovery.

Hong Kong popular singers and art troupe from the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Garrison Troops in Hong Kong staged excellent art performances.

To let more Hong Kong compatriots and Chinese worldwide to share the happiness, eight Hong Kong major television and radio stations aired the show live.

Hong Kong Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa; Gao Siren, head of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and Yang Wenchang, commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC in HKSAR and Wang Jitang, commander of the PLA Garrison Troops in HKSAR were present at the event.
