A Chinese paper-cut exhibition will be held next year to honor famous Danish fairy tale writer Hans Christian Anderson and the exhibition has started soliciting paper-cut works Tuesday from Chinese artists and amateurs.

Morgan K. F. Lam, chairman of the Hong Kong-based Chinese Arts Papercutting Association, which is one of the sponsors of the exhibition, made the remarks at a press conference here Tuesday.

Lam said the exhibition aims to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Anderson next year. The exposition will tour Hong Kong, Macao, Shanghai, Beijing and cities in Denmark, Anderson's homeland, from April to December, 2005.

The exhibition welcomes works from all Chinese papercutting aficionados, with themes featuring Chinese folk stories or Anderson's fairy tales, said Lam.

He said nearly 100 papercutting works created by Anderson himself and 112 by Chinese artists inspired by his stories will be on display.

Lam said the exhibition will encourage Chinese paper-cut artists and lovers to take the form of the Chinese art to reflect western literature so as to promote this traditional Chinese art.
