The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television has announced that a regulation on the mainland's film rating system will soon be initiated.

The announcement was made at a high-level forum on China's film and television development.

According to the national media watchdog, China's film rating system will not replace the current authoritative film inspection process.

The rating system is aimed at protecting underage people from exposure to potentially negative influences and spurring the development of Chinese films.
