2500-year Old Tombs Found in Guangdong

At the beginning of this January, another tomb cluster in the Warring States Period (475 B.C. to 221 B.C.) was found by a construction crew in Longzui hill, Nanjie Town, Guangning County of Guangdong province, during the factory's expansion project.

Four pit tombs were discovered in this exploration, and they were partly damaged at the time of the discovery because of the construction work. These four tombs are all rectangular vertical pit tombs, placed orderly along the tiny slope of a ridge, roughly in a north-south direction. No coffin or human bone was found in this mid- to medium-sized cluster. Nearly 60 relics were unearthed, including bronze wares, potteries and stone wares.

Among these four tombs there is a medium-sized tomb with waist holes. Such tombs are different from the 15 tombs discovered in 1995. Bronze wares and potteries accounted for the majority of the unearthed items. Some of the unearthed items are practical utensils, such as copper lances, various cutters and two bronze pots. One of bronze pot is a Yue-style pot. The potteries were common East Zhou Dynasty (770 B.C. - 249 B.C.) line-pattern potteries found in Guangdong.

There had been another important discovery of Warring States tombs in 1995.
