Celebration Prepared for Sun Yat-sen's Anniversary

China's top advisory body will observe the 140th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen's birth, pioneer of China's modern democratic revolution, with a series of grand rallies in November.

The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) made the decision yesterday, and presented the schedule of the annual plenary session of CPPCC National Committee.

The fourth session of the 10th National Committee of CPPCC will open on Friday and last for 11 days.

"Since 1949, Communist Party of China and the central government have attached great importance to develop the patriotic and revolutionary spirits of Sun," said Zheng Wantong, secretary-general of the CPPCC National Committee.

Sun, who was born in 1866 and died in 1925, led the successful revolution against imperial dynasty.

A grand rally to mark 140th anniversary of Sun's birth will be held in November at the Great Hall of the People, according to Zheng.

At the Biyun Temple in Beijing's Fragrant Hills, a cenotaph of Sun will receive many visitors.

Meanwhile, Sun's family members living overseas and other foreign guests will be invited to Shanghai, Nanjing and Guangzhou to participate in commemoration activities.

Special commemorative stamps will be issued, and some Chinese embassies and consulates in the countries where Sun lived will also hold commemoration activities, according to Zheng.

Zheng was elected secretary-general of the upcoming annual full session of top advisors at yesterday's conference. The conference also passed two work reports made by Jia Qinglin and Luo Haocai, chairman and vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee.

The two reports will be discussed at the upcoming full session of CPPCC National Committee.
