Chinese Elderly Models to Walk on Singapore's Stage

Thirty-two middle-aged and elderly models, all from Central China's Henan Province, will walk on the stage of an international dance and costume competition in Singapore, said Li Haoying, Director of Henan Model Art Research Association, on Tuesday.

The Singapore Orchid Award Competition is especially designed for middle-aged and elderly amateurs and will be held from April 5 to 10.

Chinese models will present a dance performance named the Glamor of Central China. Their costumes are decorated by patterns of Chinese written characters and the symbols of the Chinese dragon.

Liu Le, a 63-year-old performer, said, "Such activities make me young. I'm glad to show myself like this." Liu also went to Hong Kong and Macao for similar competitions last year.

Another 54-year-old model, named Li Shuqin, said the performances are more interesting than playing poker at home and women her age should attend more activities.

"And in this way we are no less charming than the young people,” she said.
