'Meet in Beijing' Arts Festival Underway

This evening, the famous American musical West Side Story, with its original broadway performers, is staging its last show of its Beijing stop, 8pm, at Beijing Exhibition Center.

Kicking off at the end of April, the one-month-long "Meet in Beijing" Arts Festival is successfully underway. Meanwhile, in the spotlight is the part of the Sino-French Cultural Exchanges series. Performances include a symphony concert, jointly presented by both French and Chinese artists; the Ballet series Carmen, L'arlesienne and Raymonda; and a Classic Chanson and a French Dance Show, sponsored by Pierre Cardin.

"Chanson" is a French word that simply means "song" in English, yet in Chinese it has been transliterated into "Xiangsong", the fragrant ode, leaving people with enormous romantic imagination. This Friday and Saturday, La Vie en Rose -- the Classic Chanson and French Dance Show will be staged at the Beijing Century Theater.

Meanwhile in Shanghai, the well-known singer Jiang Yuheng will stage a concert tomorrow evening at the Shanghai Grand Theater. Having launched his career in 1984, Jiang has brought us many impressive songs. This time, however, he will not only present us the oldies, but also some new songs from his 2006 album。Ticket prices range from 100 to 1000 yuan.

Finally before I go, I want to remind you of something. Mother's Day falls on this weekend. So don't forget to buy carnations for your mom, and give her your appreciation!
