Chinese Version of Dutch Artist's Biography Published
The Chinese version of the biography of M.C. Eschel, a well-known Dutch woodcut artist, has been published by the Shanghai Scientific Education Publishing House.

It is the first book to allow Chinese readers to know the Dutch artist in a complete way, said an editor with the publishing house.

The biography, entitled Magic Mirror of M.C. Eschel, was written more than 20 years ago by Bruno Ernst, a Dutch mathematician who was also a friend of the woodcut artist. It contains 250 selected pictures and vividly describes Eschel's life and creative work, as well as his unique vision about woodcutting as an art.

Eschel's works, including Drawing Hands, Cover and Concave, Print Gallery and Circle limit and Depth, have not only inspired many other artists, but also found many admirers in the scientific community.

The biography has so far been translated into a dozen languages. The Chinese edition has 220,000 characters and was translated from the English version by Tian Song, who is studying for a doctorate in the Department of Philosophy of Peking University.
