China's central government Wednesday passed two draft regulations covering Sino-overseas cooperation in schools, and safety supervision on boilers, pressurized containers, lifts and other specialized equipment.
The draft regulations were passed at the 68th executive meeting of the State Council, presided over by Premier Zhu Rongji.
The regulations will come into effect after they are revised and made public by the State Council, according to a decision made at the meeting.
The draft Regulation on Sino-Overseas Cooperation in Running Schools aims to regulate investment in education by foreign investors and those from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and boost exchanges and cooperation with countries and regions outside the Chinese mainland.
The number of boilers, pressurized containers, lifts, tram rails and large pleasure facilities has grown rapidly in China in recent years with growing safety concerns, according to the decision.
The draft Regulation on Safety Inspections for Special Equipment was drawn up in a bid to prevent and minimize accidents involving such equipment, according to the meeting.
